What is wet?
Allied’s technicians use moisture meters to compare the moisture content (measured as a percentage) in unaffected materials to those same materials found in the affected area.
How wet is it?
Any material with a moisture content of 4.0% or higher than an unaffected material is considered wet. Our technicians determine the extent of the damage and document it. The benchmark of the drying goal is based on the meter readings. Then we are able to monitor the progress of the drying process daily.
When is it dry?
Your hand can’t give you an accurate moisture content reading! The moisture meter, (not your hand, or a Claim Adjuster’s hand,) is the only acceptable tool used in the industry today to determine when a material is dry. The accepted industry practice is to dry a wet structure until the moisture content of the affected materials is within a range that is 4.0% or less than the moisture content of the unaffected materials. This is the drying goal. Once the drying goal is reached, the drying equipment can be shut down and removed.
